Establishment
The
International Federation of Funakoshi Shotokan Karate South Africa (IFFSKSA)
was established in 1984. The Founder, President and Chief Instructor Hanshi Eric
Govender 8th Dan, has led the organization from inception. Hanshi
Eric’s aim
was to build an organization that stands for excellence without exclusion, that
produces karateka’s and instructors who are both knowledgeable in both KATA and
KUMITE and be capable of expressing their own ideas. The IFFSKSA is a non
profit organization, with the aim of developing a high standard that provides
means of keeping fit both mentally and physically as well as building self
confidence and learning self defence.
Structure
The
Headquarters or the organization is based in Durban, KwaZulu
Natal, South Africa with affiliated branches that exist in the following
regions KwaZulu
Natal, Gauteng, Northern Cape, Western Cape, Eastern Cape, North West Province,
Free State, Upington,
Mpumalanga.
The
IFFSK also has affiliated branches Internationally in Various states of India, Sri Lanka &
Mauritius
Membership
The
IFFSK currently has a membership in excess of 3000 members
Achievements
The
IFFSKSA has proudly over the years produced many Protea Athlete's that
participated in National All Style Championships. In August 2005, the organization celebrated it’s 21st
Anniversary and the function was graced with the presence of The World
President and Chief Instructor of FSKA Kancho
Kenneth Funakoshi alongside the Minister of Sport & Recreation of Kwa-Zulu
Natal, Mr.Amichand Rajbansi and
the Deputy Mayor Councilor Logie
Naidoo .
The
organization has celebrated its 39th Anniversary in September 2023
